A Travel Day in the Ukraine -or- The kindness of Strangers

Traveling in the Ukraine presents a bit of a challenge – we don’t speak the language, nor can we read the Cyrillic script.  If it weren’t for the kindness of strangers, we might still be standing on a street corner somewhere between L’viv and Kyiv waiting for a bus that never comes. We started out in L’viv in the western part of the Ukraine and wanted to get south to Kamyanets-Podilsky near the Romanian border.  Continue reading

Living and Loving L’viv

We came to the Ukraine for several reasons.  First, we heard an acapella group singing on the street in Krakow and we liked the music.  Second, Krakow was close to the border and there was a direct overnight sleeper to L’viv. And third, because the Lonely Planet sings the praises of L’viv as better than Prague or Krakow before the tourist boom.  In the end we said, “Why not?” Continue reading
